The appendix is a part of the left side of the abdomen, linked to the large intestine. When the appendix is inflamed, it causes appendicitis. An obstruction in your appendix can cause appendicitis, which can lead to higher pressure, inflammation, infection, and blood flow issues.
CAUSES
There are a lot of other causes of acute appendicitis such as
- Infections
- Tumours
- Accumulation of calcified faeces (appendicolith)in the appendix
SYMPTOMS
To avoid and treat these causes we should know the symptoms to recognize this disease
- One of the most common symptoms is a pain in the right lower abdomen
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Low-grade fever
- indigestion
COMPLICATIONS
If appendicitis ruptures, you could end up with raw faeces and other bacteria in your abdominal cavity. Raw faecal matter and infections can be dangerous if the appendix ruptures and can turn into some serious complications like:
- Abscesses: Appendicular or a pocket of infectious pus is formed. Your body releases white blood cells to help fight infection. The infection must be treated with antibiotics and then drained of an abscess.
- Peritonitis: This is a life-threatening situation in which the infection spreads throughout the abdomen. This complication can be severe and fatal, thus can be identified with some of the symptoms such as:
– Fast heartbeat
– High fever
– Shortness of breath or rapid breathing
– Severe or continuous abdominal pain
